Many of us have gone through a time in our lives where we thought it was a great idea to load our vehicles with stickers that told people a few things about how we felt. However, when it comes time to sell the vehicle, or we just want to look more grown up, we often learn that it is much harder to remove truck stickers than it was to put them on in the first place.
If you are very lucky, you can just peel the sticker off after spraying something that lubricates the area. There are several different products that work fairly well for this job, like butter, cooking spray, and/or WD-40. Be careful, and if it does not seem to want to peel, do not try to force the issue, just go to the next option. Trying to make it peel will only result in the sticker falling apart and being even more unsightly than before.
Use a method that removes old wallpaper. Use a washrag or old towel and immerse it in hot soapy water for a few moments. Press the rag to the decal for no less than thirty seconds, and ensure that the entire sticker receives a decent drenching. It should then just peel away if the water is sufficiently hot.
Use a plastic paint scraper (or a plastic spatula) to work an end loose, and then bring out a blow dryer to heat up the glue holding the sticker on. Keep applying the heat while you peel, and it should come off fairly easily. If it starts resisting, or the heat doesn’t seem to do the trick, try another suggestion.
Contrary to what some people will tell you, do not try to use a sharp object to just scrape off the bumper sticker from your truck. Not only will you risk cutting yourself, you could scratch the bumper, tailgate, window, or wherever the sticker is attached beyond a simple repair. Use something plastic, like a plastic spatula, or wrap the sharp object in duct tape or something similar to protect your truck.
If the sticker has already faded beyond recognition and is peeling away bit by bit on its own, use a soft cloth (preferably one that is lint-free) dipped in rubbing alcohol to remove the rest. The best idea is to use a cloth that you would clean your sunglasses with, but make sure to dip it in the rubbing alcohol to dissolve any glue still holding it on.
After getting rid of all of the stickers, take the truck to a car wash or similar place and give it a good cleaning. Use a buffer to get rid of any leftover sticky paper, and any lint. Window cleaner, or polishing compound, can be used to shine up the area as well. Overall, the truck will look much better, and there should be little or no lasting marks where the sticker was at.
You can actually add a very small amount of value to a vehicle by removing those old expressions of your personality. If you bought the car used, it may not even be your personality expressed on the truck. Taking off the stickers can be a great way to make a used vehicle feel more new to the person buying it as well.
